I stupidly didn’t realize the re-organizing picasa on my desktop was going to be synced with my online photo hosting. Some posts are missing their photos. I’ll fix that this weekend and I PROMISE I’ll start updating again. My schedule these days is crazy. (I leave the house at 5:30AM every morning and get home either at 5:30PM or 7:30PM depending on if I catch the 4PM or 5PM bus)
I always seem to get sick when I have my period. (My apologies to those of you who like to live in denial about the functions of the female reproductive system) It sucks double hard. On top of the cramps, the bloating, the tender chicken cutlets I have a tendency to get ill. From what I understand the hormone fluctuation causes my immune system to operate less effectively so I get sick. I’ve had horrible sinusitis for the last week and I am going to spare you any elaboration on *that*.
However I want to share this batch of cookies from Dorie Greenspan’s “Baking from my home to yours” because they are great for when Aunt Irma comes to visit. (If you haven’t watched the IT Crowd you really, really should. I got my boyfriend hooked and he blasted through it in about a week. Title and linked video are related.) They are loaded with only my favorite things for a cookie: dark chocolate, peanuts, oatmeal and peanut butter chips. Each bite varies but the cookie itself manages to be sweet and salty. Perfect for that time of the month no? The only problem is that I get sick and then can’t enjoy sugary goodness.

This is just a fluff post sharing a treasure my best friend found for me at a thrift store in San Francisco. It is from a Phi Kappa Phi cookbook from the St. Olaf College in Minnesota — published 1920.
“We may live without poetry, music and art;
We may live without conscience and live without heart,
We may live without friends, we may live without books,
But civilized man cannot live without cooks.
We may live without books, what is knowledge but giving;
We may live without hope, what is hope but deceiving?
We may live without love, what is passion but pining?
But where is the man who can live without dining?”
Layout is all set so it’s time to start uploading images of my summer of culinary adventures. I’m somewhat late as summer is 1/3 of the way over for me. Better late than never…so long as the food doesn’t get cold.
